The First FHL 'Kindness Weekend': Mobile Food Pantry Serves 200 Families!

mellyreed's picture

The
first ‘Kindness Weekend’ was combined with the FHL Mobile Food Pantry on Saturday, September 6th. We served more than 200 families at the corner of 10th/Rural. Half of the families served were new to the FHL Mobile Food Pantry. Parking was a challenge but despite this, things went very well. Everyone worked hard and they were energized by the accomplishment of the entire team at the end of the day.

Altogether,
there were 40 plus volunteers serving the Mobile Food Pantry from preparation to clean up. And about half of those who came were first time volunteers. For more information, please check out the CityReaching.org Faith, Hope, and Love wiki page to find out how you can become a Faith, Hope, and Love volunteer. As always, the main hope of showing love to our neighbors as volunteers for Faith, Hope, and Love is to bring precious souls to Christ, one at a time. And this outreach was no exception! One person accepted Jesus as their Savior at this first instance of the FHL 'Kindness Weekend'. Praise the Lord!

The
FHL’s 'Kindness Weekend' is similar to the Mobile Food Pantry but we serve the community in other ways beyond the food pantry outreach. Some of the weekend (Saturday) outreaches consist of painting, light construction, gardening, trash pick ups, and more. Most of the projects are family-friendly and everyone can participate. The connection is that we visit different areas of the community, just as the Mobile Food Pantry does, in order to serve as a catalyst, garnering active participation and cooperation for community service from Indianapolis area churches, businesses, government and educational institutions. Stay tuned for the next ‘Kindness Weekend’
