I think that ICG should use its time, talents and treasures to affect the lives of those in need in our Indianapolis "Sphere of Influence.
So. Instead of meeting to talk about cool new technology and how it might improve our different ministries. We should actually USE our technology to further Jesus' instruction to feed the hungry, house the homeless, sure the sick, disciple others, and make believers.
Why not use this site to rally people to make hot cocoa and sandwiches for the hungry/homeless? Why not organize a schedule of people who can hang out at the UB cafe to help others to draft resumes? It's time to stop talking about ministry; and start doing it.
Just my 5 cents.

Sun, 09/07/2008 - 21:51 — drthomashoI think that I can enlist the IUPUI IVCF chapter in any service project because the chapter is doing one this week by packing care packages for US soldiers in the Middle East. I can provide packets of hot cocoa from another service project that didn't 'get off the ground' but I'll have to check how much we have.

Sun, 09/07/2008 - 23:30 — scottwilderI've got a minivan. Plenty of room for food and people.
Does anyone have a place downtown where we can prep the food?
UB Cafe perhaps?
Are grocery stores willing to donate unsold lunch meat from the deli? Or are they required to dispose of it by law? Same question for deli cheese.

Sun, 09/07/2008 - 21:38 — scottwilderThe temperature is going down. Fall is fast approaching.
I vote the that the ICG's do a sandwich & hot cocoa ministry for the homeless of Indianapolis.
Material Needs:
1. bread
2. lunchmeat
3. cheese
4. mayo
5. wax paper or baggies
6. paper bags.
7. Hot cocoa mix
8. cups/lids
Tranportation Needs:
At least 1 vehicle that can transport the food and up to four passengers
Human Resources:
Make a schedule that would rotate a group of people to make dinner and deliver it to the homeless an needy in the city. I suggest 4 people per week.
Weekly Plan: Every week four people assemble together to make bag lunches with cocoa and deliver it to known areas where homeless people congregate in the city. I estimate this will take between 2 and 4 hours.

Re: My Vision for ICG
Sun, 09/07/2008 - 19:19 — AnonymousThat was WAY MORE than 5 cents worth!
A few years ago, on a lark I called some local churches and merely asked them if they'd provide the cocoa. Or the milk. Or a van. NADA!
So yeah, let's do it!

Grass Roots is the way to go. There are people who talk ministry and people who DO ministry. Let's be people that do it.
